Things sounded rather well for Screwtape and Wormwood at the end of the first letter. But no letter that has “I note with grave displeasure” can be good. Huh? Spend time with them? Even in the secular world, there a saying that some people go by. Keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer. But that’s to protect yourself from them. As a Christian, there’s a different reason for spending time with our enemies. Remember the kinds of things Jesus did in that regard?

Seriously – the Bible warns about high interest rates and subprime loans? How can that be? There weren’t any Wall Street banks or investment companies. If Wall Street even existed, it would maybe have been the path along the Wailing Wall along the west side of the temple.

Blessed are those who mourn. Oh yeah. That’s a message we all want to hear. Especially when it’s translated as “happy are those who are unhappy”. But remember, this is Jesus. Everything’s either upside down or backwards. After all, Jesus is the one who said, Mt 20:16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.” So what else should we expect?
